About

Built around how Nigerians actually get their money data.

Not around how a finance app in San Francisco assumes they do.

The problem it started from

A Nigerian bank statement is a difficult document. Narrations are written for the bank’s systems, not for you — strings like MOBILE TRF TO PAY / J DOE or COMMISSION MOBILE TRF. Charges arrive in small pieces under names most people never decode. And the single largest line of the month is often a cash withdrawal, which tells you nothing at all about what the money was for.

Most expense trackers assume a card-linked, always-connected bank feed and quietly do not work here. The ones that do work often assume you will hand over credentials you should not hand over.

Why it reads statements instead of connecting to banks

Live bank connections in Nigeria run through licensed aggregators. We looked at that route and chose not to take it. Statement import is not a stopgap while we wait for an integration — it is the architecture, and it stays.

The trade-off is honest: you export a file and upload it, rather than watching transactions appear on their own. In exchange, TrakBuk holds no keys to your bank, cannot move money, and cannot be the reason your account is drained. What that means in practice.

Who it is for

People running more than one money life at once: a salary and a side hustle, a personal account and a registered business, or a household where one person keeps the books. Workspaces exist so those stay separate without separate logins, and so a bookkeeper can be given exactly one of them and nothing else.

What it is not

Not accounting software. There is no invoicing, no payroll, no VAT filing, no chart of accounts. If you need a ledger your auditor will accept, TrakBuk is not that and will not pretend to be. It answers a smaller question honestly: where is the money going, and what is it costing you to move it.

Where it is now

Early, and still being built in the open. The import pipeline, categories, cash tracking, workspaces and sharing all work today. It is free while that continues, and the most useful thing you can do is tell us where it falls short.

See if it reads your bank.

Import one statement. If the parser struggles with your format, that is exactly what we want to hear about.
